Advanced pulse core (4)

Advanced pulse cores provide an additional +50% experience boost, which stacks with any existing bonus experience. These cores explode after accumulating enough experience, giving either a temporary skill boost or restoring life points or prayer points. Players have the option to lock any skill by selecting the Toggle skills option. Depending on the skill, it’s possible for more than one core to explode simultaneously, although not all skills can consume multiple cores at once. For instance, in Dungeoneering, multiple cores may explode when receiving a substantial experience drop from a Dungeoneering floor. The total experience granted by advanced pulse cores scales with your total level, equivalent to that of a medium prismatic lamp.

When the advanced pulse core explodes, it provides a multiplicative 50% experience boost to the XP drop that triggered it. Additionally, the player wearing the core and nearby players receive a stacking 2% bonus experience buff for each explosion, capped at 10% for 10 minutes. The timer resets whenever another pulse core explodes, but if the base experience of an action exceeds the remaining experience currently stored within, the advanced pulse core will explode.

The pulse core is worn in the pocket slot and is stackable, allowing players to wear multiple pulse cores simultaneously. This enables them to receive all the bonus experience without needing to check and re-equip pulse cores.

Both experience boosts from pulse cores will stack additively with normal bonus experience (but not Enlightenment aura). At maximum, when all three are active, players can gain up to 2.6x the normal experience. The pulse core buff also stacks with the Clan avatar's skilling buff, as well as Double XP Live.

As an example of the advanced pulse cores potential, the soul altar in Runecrafting will be used. The soul altar can be charged up and then released to gain all the experience in a single experience drop. Through the Abyss, a fully charged soul altar can always consume all of the experience within an advanced pulse core. The multiplicative 50% experience boost to the single experience drop grants a larger experience boost when compared to the increased bonus experience burn rate of the cinder core. On top of using the advanced pulse core, the player can further increase the experience by having a demonic skull in their inventory.

The 50% bonus does not work when disassembling augmented items.

Temporary skill boosts[edit | edit source]

The pulse core can boost skills in four categories: Gatherer, Artisan, Support and Combat. When a pulse boosts skills, it affects all skills in the set. This does not apply to free-to-play, only members. The boost doesn't always occur after you finish a core, and thus, you may need to use multiple cores to get the desired boost.

Alternatively, it is possible for it to restore life points or prayer points instead. The amount of life points restored is equivalent to that of a Shark. For prayer points the value is equivalent to a Prayer potion.

Advanced pulse cores offer temporary boosts in skills aligned to an Expert cape of Accomplishment.

The amount of boost received scales with the individual levels of the skills being boosted. Ironmen will not receive the skill boost or the escalating bonus experience buff from using a pulse core.

The boost will decrease by a single point at a time until depleted. It can be refreshed to full effect and duration by experiencing another pulse core explosion, but this depends on the boost rolling for the same skill category. The first point of the boost will decay based on a 60 second timer that begins when you log in; every subsequent point will last for 1 minute.

Pulse core boosting[edit | edit source]

By effectively utilising pulse core boosts, you can engage in content above your current level. For example, you could make Overload potions as early as level 89 Herblore, or unlock powerful Archaeology upgrades like the Conservation of Energy relic power up to 8 levels early by boosting to excavate/restore the required artefacts. While this tactic can be done with other items that grant temporary boosts like spicy stews, pulse cores grant some of the highest boosts in the game.

The following steps must be taken to obtain and maintain the boost. Note that this is tedious due to requiring frequent lobbying to prevent the boost from decaying, and thus isn't recommended for standard training methods. See here for more information on preventing boost decay.

  • Go to an area with several pulse core explosions, such as the Lumbridge Market or Fort Forinthry on world 84.
  • When you get the boost in your desired skill, lobby immediately. This is because the time at which boosts decrease depend on when you log in, so the boost can decrease moments after you obtain it.
  • Engage in your desired activity, making sure to lobby or switch worlds within 60 seconds of logging in.

  • The pitch of the noise that an (advanced) pulse core makes increases every 1,000 experience that is used.
  • Orbs of blue light orbit the player using an advanced pulse core, increasing in number and complexity as the bonus experience is spent. At later stages, the orbs also turn between blue and red and the frequency increases as the pulse core nears explosion.
