Foundations Encourage your student to access and activate their student account and email . New student accounts are automatically set up once students accept their offer of admission. Your student will receive an email with account creation instructions soon after they accept their offer.
Encourage your student to familiarize themselves with TritonLink , UC San Diego’s student website. TritonLink is home to important tools and resources for current students, including your student’s personal portal, MyTritonLink (only students can access their portal).
Look into the UC San Diego Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP) and decide whether or not to waive it. To ensure that all students have adequate health care coverage, including ongoing primary and specialty care, and to satisfy the mandatory health insurance requirement, UCSD automatically enrolls all registered students into UC SHIP. Students who are currently covered under a private health plan and do not wish to be covered by UC SHIP may submit an online application to opt out of (waive) the UC SHIP. The UC SHIP Waiver opens May 6 and must be submitted by September 16. Learn more about waiving UC SHIP .
Ensure your student applies for on-campus housing by the appropriate deadline if they wish to live on campus (First-Year Students: May 31 | Transfer Students: June 7 . Keep in mind that students must live on campus in their first year in order to be eligible for the two-year housing guarantee .The housing application is free and easy. Once students have accepted their offer of admission and activated both their Single Sign On and ucsd.edu email, students can access their housing application through the Enrollment Checklist in the Applicant Portal.Be sure to pay attention to important housing dates and deadlines – if your student misses a deadline, they forfeit their two year housing guarantee .
Incoming first-year housing assignments begin in the residence halls and apartments in their college of registration, then continue into other on-campus housing areas. Incoming transfer housing assignments begin in The Village (Pepper Canyon and Matthews Apartments), the Rita, and Pepper Canyon West and then continue into other housing areas. Fluctuations in undergraduate housing and/or high enrollments may affect housing placements.
Academics and Advising JUNE 16: Deadline for your student to complete their Academic Background in New Triton Advising (NTA) via the Virtual Advising Center (VAC). During the Summer, NTA provides academic information and enrollment guidance for your student’s first Fall quarter. Note that only students can access the Virtual Advising Center.
Learn about placement exams for math, chemistry, language, or the entry-level writing requirement. Encourage your student to take any that are applicable.

Important Documents and Deadlines JULY 1: Deadline for your student to submit their official transcript(s).
Incoming first-year students are required to submit final official transcripts directly from each institution they attended from grades 9 through 12. Learn more. Incoming transfer students are required to submit official transcripts from every college/university they attended. Learn more .Students with missing transcripts will be notified in late July to request another transcript if needed. JULY 1: Housing Contract and $450 prepayment due. Review the housing contract process including selecting a Dining plan .
JULY 1: D eadline for your student to submit their Student ID photo .
JULY 10: UC Immunization requirements due. All incoming and re-admitted students are required to meet the UC Immunization, COVID-19 Vaccination and Tuberculosis (TB) Screening Requirements. We encourage students to complete these requirements early to avoid delays. It can take 7-10 days for your student’s record to be updated after they complete their immunization requirements. Failure to complete these requirements will result in a hold on your student’s account, preventing them from enrolling in classes until the necessary requirements are met. JULY 15: AP and IB exam results due. Students should request results be sent to UC San Diego, school code: 004836.
Complete the Enrollment Checklist Encourage your student to complete any outstanding items in their Enrollment Checklist in their Applicant Portal, like online training programs or agreements. All incoming students are required to complete two online training modules through EverFi, an online training platform, prior to enrolling in classes. These modules are titled “Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates” and “Diversity, Equity & Inclusion for Students.” A notification from EverFi will be sent to your student’s @ucsd.edu email when these trainings are available for them to complete. Your student will not be able to enroll in fall classes until they complete both trainings.
Encourage your student to share their parent and family contact information in their Applicant Portal. This ensures that you will receive information from Parent and Family Programs about events and programs, important campus news and updates and more.
Keep an Eye out for Orientation Info Be on the lookout for orientation info! You’ll receive emails from Parent and Family Programs and your student’s college about attend Parent and Family Orientation. Students should be on the lookout for information about their college Orientation program, too. Parents and families of international students should also keep an eye out for details regarding International Parent and Family Orientation . Families of Black, Latinx, and Native American students should be on the lookout for an invitation to Black, Latinx, and Native American Family Orientation .
Get Set Up as an Authorized Payer AUGUST 1: If you will be assisting your student with tuition and housing costs, be sure your student sets you up as an Authorized Payer . Learn more about paying your student’s bill .Your student will need to invite you to be a payer on their account. Make sure your student completes this by September 2 in order to receive an automated notification when the September bill is ready to be viewed in TritonPay. If you are authorized after September 2, you will not receive an e-bill email notification for September.
Start Thinking About Move-in Once your student receives their housing assignment, explore typical room types and layouts , learn more about your student’s undergraduate neighborhood , and check out our Undergraduate Housing FAQ .
Tell your student to be on the lookout for information about move-in from their Residential Life Office . In late August, your student will receive details about how and when move-in for their Residential Housing Communit y will take place.
Keep these packing tips in mind:
Pack essential items only for your initial arrival. After settling in your new space, purchase non-essential items online and ship them to campus through one of the Amazon Hub Lockers on campus for easy pick up. You can also plan to visit our campus Target store to conveniently shop on site or pick up an order once you’ve assessed your space on campus. Coordinate with roommates regarding larger items like mini refrigerators, microwaves, and TVs. Consider waiting to purchase larger items until after move-in so you don’t have to travel with them.Pack in rolling suitcases and smaller boxes that are easy to carry. Elevators may be limited in your student’s residence, if there are elevators. Consider bringing a rolling cart or dolly to move bulky or heavy items. A limited number of carts may be available at your student’s college.Mail services will begin after your student moves in. Students will receive mailbox keys or combinations once they have turned in their room inventory/move-in checklist to their Residence Life Office after moving in. Note that student room assignments are NOT student mailing addresses. Learn more about sending mail to your student. Keep in mind : Letters, magazines, and small packages that fit will be delivered directly to your student’s mailbox. Large packages and times that are sent via U.S. Mail (First, Second, or Third Class, Express Mail, Priority Mail, and Certified Mail), United Parcel Service (UPS), Federal Express, OnTrac, DHL Express, are delivered to Student Mail Services. Your student will receive a notice (via email) with instructions on when and where they can pick up your package. Don’t plan to bring any additional furniture – space is limited!Explore your student’s college website for more info about move in and residence halls. Many college websites have details about what to bring, room details and tours, and additional info.
