Depending on the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate, this position will be hired at the Clinical Informatics Specialist III or IV level.

The Clinical Informatics Specialist is responsible for triaging, designing, managing, and meeting analytics needs across UCSD Health Cancer Services. Responsible for producing reports in Reporting workbench, Radar, Clarity, Crystal and Tableau. This involves the development and implementation of the organization's information systems and tools that are applied to clinical information. Works closely with UC San Diego Health’s IS Analytics Department, and other stakeholders across all hospital/healthcare departments to optimize effective use of systems. Coordinates analytical support for Cancer Center clinical operations and quality initiatives, including business analytics/performance metrics. Defines systems and applications to support various functions. May provide customer service, troubleshooting and maintenance. Applies skills and experience as a seasoned clinical informatics professional to projects of medium size at all levels of complexity, or portions of large projects.

Technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues or structure. May manage projects that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy.

  • Seven (7) years of clinical informatics or a related field, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in health care information technology, computer science, or related area; plus three (3) years of related experience/training. Experience working in oncology or healthcare setting strongly preferred.

  • Will be required to be certified in assigned EMR vendor's product/module within the first six (6) months of employment.

  • Must satisfy all vendor testing requirements to be certified without needing to attend vendors training a second time for the same class.

  • Professional level experience working with clinical information systems and developing reports.

  • Intermediate level capabilities with MSSQL server and related technologies.

  • Knowledge and intermediate level experience working with Transact SQL, Crystal Reports and/or other related technologies.

  • Extensive experience and working knowledge of all MS office products.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of database management technologies.

  • Strong project management skills. Ability to working a group setting and group projects.

  • Excellent verbal, written communication skills, presentation and report writing. Strong interpersonal skills

  • Five (5) or more years of related healthcare analytics experience, education/training. Required for Clinical Informatics Specialist IV

  • Professional level experience and proven success performing clinical workflows, user interface optimization, clinical decision support, rules development, data integration and mining, clinical ontologies and adoption of technology. Required for Clinical Informatics Specialist IV

  • Epic Certifications in Cogito, Clarity, and/or Caboodle.

  • Advanced level experience with database management and various third-party report building tools such as Tableau, Crystal Reports, Cognos, SAS, and others.

  • Experience in a large, complex healthcare environment.

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $91,300 - $170,700 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $43.73 - $81.75

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
