As they say, “It’s not fitness. It’s life.”
I joined Equinox in November 2023.
Everyone has the perception of Equinox being an unnecessarily overpriced luxury gym. I won’t lie, it’s definitely pricey. But after some thought, I decided that getting an Equinox membership would be of greater worth as a girl who loves my NYC work out classes (that cost a heck of a money).
Going into my 5th month at Equinox, do I think it’s worth it? Yes. Here’s my take on why it makes it worth it to me (and possibly you).
1. Workout Classes
Equinox offers so many unique workout classes all throughout the day. Cycling, ballet, yoga, athletic/strength conditioning, precision run, pilates, dance, barre, muay thai, boxing, and even meditation classes.
The quality of all these classes are amazing, and the best part is that you can take MULTIPLE classes in one day. There is no limit. On a lucky day, you may be the only one who signed up for the class and get a special 1:1 coaching session.
The price of all these workout classes are INCLUDED in your membership, so they are all “free”. Workout classes in NYC are typically around $25–35 per session, so this makes the Equinox membership very appealing to someone who enjoys going to these classes.
Also, I’m someone who gets bored doing just one type of workout. Therefore, I always like to change it up and take different classes without having to sign up and find new workout studios throughout the city (ex. Soulcycle, Barry’s, Solidcore, etc).
2. Amenities
Equinox is known for their eucalyptus towels. The refreshing scent of eucalyptus, cold right from the fridge really does feel amazing after a break of sweat.
The steaming room is quite amazing too. It’s always nicely cleaned and makes going to the gym feel like a relaxing day at the spa.
For the women’s locker rooms, we have multiple amenities:
- ‘August’ menstrual hygiene products — I saw these pads/tampons everywhere on Tik Tok and was surprised to find them at Equinox. They are “sustainably made with 100% organic cotton materials and are hypoallergenic, fragrance-free, and free of harmful chemicals”
- Hairties
- Shaving cream & one-use razor
- Mouthwash
3. The Shower Experience (ft. Kiehl’s)
This has got to be my favorite part of my Equinox membership (that I had to create a seperate section for it). If anyone experiences the showers at Equinox, they will immediately fall in love with the place. Honestly, I don’t find the “gym” itself any special, but the shower rooms truly are.
All shower products are Kiehl’s products — even the lotions. They have: shampoo, conditioner, body wash, face wash, face lotion (the famous “ultra face cream), and the body lotion.
Besides all this, the shower stalls are so nicely designed with perfect water pressure (at least for the Equinox location I go to).
4. The Gym Environment
Like any other gym, Equinox is filled with so many hard working people. Being surrounded by such high energy can be very motivating. Also, the interior is nicely designed, clean, and organized. It’s a nice place to work out in.
5. Study (Cafe) Space
As a student, I love studying in cafes. Every Equinox has their own lounge area with couches, desks, chairs to just relax and do work at. The Equinox location I usually go to doesn’t have the biggest study area, but the newly opened NoMad location has a great lounge area with amazing interior and study space.
So, instead of going to a cafe (knowing I have to spend $5–7 on a cup of coffee JUST so that I can study there for a few hours), I love going any nearby Equinox and using their lounge area (even if I don’t use the gym to work out).
6. Different Locations
I live in NYC, and there are so many Equinox locations here.
Depending on your membership, you can either have access to ALL Equinox gyms or can be limited to certain locations. But even with the “limitation”, you have access to most chains — just not the very well known ones such as the Hudson Yards Equinox.
Not only this, when you travel to another state, you can access the Equinox there (your membership isn’t limited to the state your in!) which makes going to the gym while on vacation so convenient.
