What would cause a washing machine not to drain and spin? ›

If your washer won't drain or spin, the water level control may be faulty. Open the machine's control panel and look for a plastic tube attached to the water level valve. If it's clogged, clear it out with vinegar. If the valve itself is corroded, it may need to be replaced.

Why is my front load washing machine not draining completely? ›

If your washer won't drain, the first thing to inspect is the drain hose. If this part is clogged, frozen or bent, water won't be able to flow out—which will leave all the liquid in the tub. Make sure the drain hose isn't kinked or twisted in a way that obstructs the flow of water.

Why is my front load washer not going into the spin cycle? ›

A displaced or faulty spin switch is the most likely cause. This small switch should be pressed down by the lid when it's closed. If it isn't pressed down, your machine may prevent the spin cycle as a safety measure. To troubleshoot this, hold the switch down with your finger (with the lid open) and start a spin cycle.

Why are my clothes still wet after spin cycle Whirlpool? ›

Overloading is a common reason for clothes too wet after spin cycle ends. Loading with too many items can make the washer drum unbalanced, reducing spin speeds. Before drying, remove or redistribute clothing to lighten or balance the load. Then run another drain and spin cycle.

Why is my washing machine not rinsing and spinning? ›

The most probable cause is a clogged pump filter. The pump filter should be cleaned every three months or when it's clogged. This filter is installed to catch foreign items like buttons or coins and to prevent these items from entering the drain hose. It's located at the bottom right-hand corner of your machine.

What is the most common problem with front load washers? ›

Most notably, they're prone to mold, mildew, and odor. That's because the rubber gasket around the door, which keeps water inside during a wash cycle, traps this water after a cycle and creates a damp environment that allows mold and mildew to thrive.

Why won't my front load washing machine spin or drain? ›

The most likely cause is an inoperative drain pump, or a clogged debris filter. If your washer has water inside the Drum, the door will not open to prevent a flood. If you are using to sanitize the cycle and the water is extremely hot, the door will not open to prevent injury. Straighten the drain hoses.

Why are my clothes too wet after the spin cycle? ›

A slow spin speed may have been selected. A slow spin speed will eliminate less water than a fast spin speed. Cold water can make clothes feel more wet. If the ground water temperature is very low where you live or during a certain season of the year, this could make the clothes seem to be more wet.

How do you fix a washing machine that won t agitate or spin? ›

If a washer won't spin or agitate, a broken suspension spring could be making the tub unbalanced and unable to rotate properly. Inspect the suspension springs for damage and replace if necessary - it is recommended that all springs be replaced at the same time for more even wear.
