The Porsche 918 Spyder has been sold out, not that it should surprise anyone, thanks to the car’s pedigree and stature. As of November 10, all 918 units of the hybrid supercar, which have been priced about US$11,80,000 (Rs 7.47 crore), have found garages across the world.
A month ago Porsche sales chief Bernhard Maier had disclosed that a few of the 918 Spyder in two digit numbers were still available. According to reports, about 1/3 of the supercar were sold in US alone, which accounts to about 300 units (approx).
The Porsche 918 Spyder is powered by a lightweight 4.6-litre V8 engine (weighing just 135kg) that produces 607bhp and 528Nm of torque. There are two electric motors providing support with 279bhp one on the front axle and the other at the rear. Transmission duties are carried out by a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch gearbox powering all four wheels. The 918 is one of the first hypercars to prove that performance needn’t equate to gas guzzling as it has a claimed fuel consumption of 33kmpl (US cycle – 78mpg).
This car has clocked the fastest time for a production car (6 min and fifty seven seconds) at the Nürburgring. It is also holds the distinction of being the highest made sports car thanks to its 918 unit production run. In comparison the McLaren P1 (375) is less than half its total number and also much higher than Ferrari’s LaFerrari (499 units).
