What is the origin of Chex Party Mix? ›

According to legend, the Chex Mix originated in St. Louis around 1954 or 1955 (sources vary) from the son of one of the founders. Though I have found ads that have a version of the recipe as early as 1952. It was supposedly a recipe his sister-in-law made.

Indeed, after this tasting I found the argument that peanuts upset the balance of Chex Mix very curious, as a Chex Mix without nuts is all crunchy carbs. Uniformity is not balance. It is, however, a little boring. This is probably why the original Chex Mix recipe called for the addition of nuts in the first place.

Such is the case with the bagel chip, once the favored and a widely beloved component of Chex Mix. Until one day, a decade ago, Chex Mix decided to take it away. I guess Chex thought it wouldn't be missed too much.
