General Mills Foodservice is announcing a packaging improvement for our Pillsbury™ Frozen Thaw & Serve Baked Brownie Sheets.There is NO change to the product formula, and NO action is needed from customers.

​Individual brownie trays within the case will now be printed with a saleable UPC. This improvement will allow Distributors and Operators to sell individual brownie trays to customers. This change does not impact how customers order this product from General Mills, and product should continue to be purchased by the case.

February 2024 Update
​We had previously noted shipment of these SKUs would be temporarily suspended until February 2024. However, we continue to experience manufacturing challenges, caused largely by disruption from a winter weather event, and compounded by the strong demand we are seeing for SKUs across this portfolio. Given these circ*mstances, and to maximize health on the rest of the portfolio, we have made the difficult decision to continue suspension on the items we had not yet produced before the winter weather event.

  • Pillsbury™ Southwest Queso Cheesy Pull-Aparts will come off suspension as planned on February 12, 2024.
  • Three additional SKUs will remain on an extended suspension until June 3, 2024.
  • Pillsbury™ Cocoa Puffs™ Soft Filled Bar has been discontinued. This was announced in a separate communication sent to youearlier this month.

This week seems to have its ongoing issues. Ammonia leak last Monday created issues for us packaging product for your orders. Now we have been told that the FDA will be in our Foodservice plant this week which is expected to shut us down during peak production times. This creates issues once again with any future orders. Production is running 24/7 and with the large amount of volume going through our plant and short labor is causing delays with production and our shipping Department.

Huy Fong Foods’ sriracha hot sauce, in the green-capped bottle with the rooster label, has been hard to find for the past few years. In July 2020, the company sent an email to customers saying it was experiencing a shortage of the jalapeño chili peppers that are a main ingredient of the sauce. In April 2022, it reiterated the problem in astatement to customers. But it hasn’t solved the problem yet — leaving consumers seeking alternatives to the popular hot sauce.

​Due to disruptions in the supply chain, supply of 5-gallon pail lids has become intermittent.
Intercon Chemical uses a wide variety of 5-gallon pail lids that come in a variety of colors, each with different spouts or openings. Due to the intermittent supply of 5-gallon pail lids, Intercon manufacturing may use alternate lids from time to time.
Whenever possible we will use the standard 5-gallon pail lid type for each product. Keep in mind this may change by product or order until the supply chain fully returns to normal.

The Bavarian Bread line is not being produced at all. The company has experienced hiccups with timing of production and transportation picking up resulting in some shortage issues.

March 10 Update
As a follow-up to our January and early February 2022 communications, we would like to share that we are continuing to see progress regarding our new ERP system and normalizing order processes. As shared, we have experienced temporarily slower order processing speeds in our NJ facility causing a backlog of orders. To further facilitate normalization of order processing speeds, we are cancelling select purchase orders placed with request dates of Feb 25 or earlier. This step will occur on Mar 10 ad 11.

On Sunday, May 30, JBS USA announced that it was the target of a major cyberattack and has shut its North American and Australian computer networks.The supply chain could see significant disruptions if processing facilities under JBS's umbrella are temporarily idled in the United States. If plant closures do occur and are long-lasting, cattle and hogs scheduled for slaughter would likely be rerouted to the feedlots or barns until further notice.

September 13 Update
On Sunday evening, a fire broke out at the rendering section of JBS’s beef plant in Grand Island, Nebraska.On a Facebook post, JBS stated, “As of this time fabrication and slaughter A and B shift will not be working September 13, 2021."
The facility has an estimated daily capacity of 5,500 to 6,000 head per day and employs about 2,800 people.Industry sources estimate today’s cattle slaughter at 113,000 head.Thefire that reportedly started late Sundayin the rendering area of JBS's Grand Island, Neb., beef processing facility remained burning 12 hours later,according to media reports.The rendering operations apparently are a total loss.

But operations at the plant, which were suspended on Monday, are expected to resume Tuesday, according to a statement by the company.

By Monday the blaze was dubbed a six-alarm fire. A report quoting the Associated Press said the fire continued burning inside of walls and ceilings in the plant. No injuries have been reported, and no cause for the fire has been determined.​

Kemps
Kemps’ 3-gallon packaging supplier, as well as other 3 - gallon tub manufacturers in the U.S. are experiencing significant market disruptions from two main raw materials – Cold Set Adhesive and Steel Rims.
Supply has been tight due to the adhesive suppliers operating under force majeure since the Polar Vortex in February. Most recently this was compounded by a major flood at one the glue suppliers manufacturing sites. This forced the outage late last week as limited inventories were depleted.

As we all welcome the ongoing recovery of our industry, the rapid increases in demand and abrupt format shifts back to the tabletop have left us all with supply constraints. With this in mind, we have identified an opportunity for us to unlock incremental tabletop ketchup supply by temporarily simplifying our tabletop ketchup portfolio.

Production will be halted on IFD #56360 Classic Squeeze Ketchup through at least October 2021.

We have made the decision to exit our canned soup business. The list below gives details on the remaining canned soup SKUs in our portfolio that we are discontinuing. We anticipate supply on the majority of these SKUs to last through the month of November. We have a robust frozen bag and tub soup portfolio that we would recommend for conversion consideration.

​Major commodities have experienced a downward trend in prices. However, the recent increase in sugar costs has negated most of these favorable pricing trends.

Sugar – up 30%. 2024 pricing much higher than 2023. Many suppliers have allocated supplies.
Palm Oil – down 22%, still at above historical levels.
Pails – down 18%

Fruits and corn syrup will not be booked until last half of 2023

Category Cost Drivers

Buttercreme Icings – 60-65% of buttercremes is sugar. 27-30% is shortening. Price impact will be + .03-.08 per lb.
Fudge/Choc Icings – 50-75% of fudge/choc icings is sugar. 10-20% is shortening. Price impact will be +.03-.08 per lb.
Donut Glazes – 75-85% of glaze is sugar. Price impact expected + .12-.14 per lb.
Dip N Dry Icings – 65-77% of these icings is sugar. Price impact to be + .10-.12 per lb.
