Making hard-boiled eggs in the instant pot is a game changer! If it took you awhile to jump on this instant pot band wagon, don’t worry, you’re not alone! Haha! I was not into it when it first came out, when it was all the rage. But there are now some things that are so much easier done in the instant pot, and I will never go back!

I will have to say I always did hard-boiled eggs on the stove my traditional way, so it took a bit for me to venture out of my norm. (Read this post if you don’t have an instant pot but want easy to peel eggs!) But now, I think I will forever make eggs in the instant pot! It couldn’t be simpler. Plus, I never have to worry about the shells not peeling neatly, and I certainly don’t end up with funky-looking eggs!!

So, how exactly do you do hard-boiled eggs in the instant pot?

Sounds weird, right?!

It’s simple . . . let’s get started!

Place the metal trivet in the bottom of the pot.

Place a dozen eggs (or less) in the instant pot on the rack. You’ll want to make sure the eggs are on the trivet and are not sitting on the bottom of the pot.

Next, add about 1 cup of water.

Put the lid on securely, and make sure the steam release valve is set to the sealing position.

Now, click on pressure cook. Make sure it’s on high pressure.

Adjust the time with the – and +to 9 minutes.

The instant pot will take several minutes for pressure to build up, but then you will see the timer start going down when it’s up to pressure and doing its thing. 🙂

After the cook time ends, let it stay in the instant pot for about 5-6 minutes before doing anything.

(you’ll notice the light is off on pressure cook and it’s just on keep warm)

After 5-6 minutes, quick release the pressure by turning the steam release valve to the venting position.

(the safe option to do this is by using the handle of a long spoon to turn it to the venting position)

After the steam escapes and the pin drops back down, open the lid and take it off.

Prepare a bowl of ice water.

Using tongs, remove the eggs from the instant pot and place in the ice water for 5 minutes.

After 5 minutes, the eggs are ready to peel or ready to store in the fridge for later use!

I followed your directions exactly. I used the trivet that came with my Instant Pot and out of 12 eggs I only got 4 that didn’t crack or open up. What did I do wrong?

Do you think 9 minutes is too long on high pressure? Your yolks didn’t turn grey?
