Happy new year, everyone! I hope you all had a lovely time with family and friends filled with memories and delicious food.

This year, I'm not making any resolutions or many changes in regards to how I eat. I think it's silly to begin the new year with restrictive eating that ultimately leads to feelings of deprivation, followed by overeating, guilt, and failure. Which leads to what? More restriction. It only creates a vicious cycle.

Instead, I'm going to continue nourishing my body with healthy and delicious food (including treats when I want them!) and living my life as usual. For me, that means starting my day with a filling breakfast. Every day. Period.

One of my favorite breakfasts lately is this turmeric golden milk oatmeal. It is so warming and cozy, with some added health perks, too!

Turmeric has powerful antioxidant properties thanks to the polyphenolic compound curcumin. It's also known for anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects. Ginger also contains anti-inflammatory compounds. Both are good for digestion and soothing an upset stomach. Combined with honey, cinnamon, and fiber-rich oats, you have a spicy, warm and soothing breakfast that you'll keep coming back to during these cold months!

This yummy and healthy breakfast starts with a base of turmeric-infused golden milk, then oats are cooked right in the pan with the golden milk. It's super easy and makes enough for 2 servings, so you can share with your SO, or save a serving for tomorrow.

Where do you find turmeric?

Ground turmeric is the easiest to use and can be found with the spices in most grocery stores.

How do you make golden milk?

The golden milk is easy to make and can serve as a warming, anti-inflammatory beverage without the oats. Simply simmer turmeric, ginger, cinnamon and a pinch of black pepper with the milk of your choosing. It's often made with coconut milk beverage, but I like to use almond milk or regular dairy milk since that's what I normally have in my refrigerator. I also add a touch of honey for a little sweetness and added antibacterial properties.

To make the golden milk into delicious turmeric golden milk oatmeal, just add some rolled oats to the simmering golden milk and cook as you normally would cook oatmeal! Easy peasy.
