Indeed a key French-German project to boost the production of green energy by joining research forces for and with the industry. As one participant said at the kick-off: “we know that such research cooperation enables us to reach much further achievements than if we did it alone”. The essence of the 🇫🇷🇩🇪cooperation in R&I.

Electricity will be the backbone of the decarbonisation process, due to the electrification of different sectors and the further expansion of weather-dependent renewables. This will create or has already created challenges for the electricity system. One important response to these challenges will be to develop flexibility and resilience," said a panel discussion on the development of resilience markets. Last year and this year could be a landmark year in this area, as there were many new developments last year and are expected in the near future.Panel discussion participants:Richárd Balog from MAVIR Hungarian Transmission Operator Co.András Vinkovits from EnergiabörzePeter Horváth from Dunamenti ErőműPeter LUCZAY from ALTEO GroupMihály Orbán from E.ON Hungária Csoportmoderated by Pálma Szolnoki PhD from Zero Carbon Hub (ZKK)#meksz #mekszconference2024

ENERGY ISLANDS IN DENMARK BECOME PART OF EUROPEAN COMMISSIONS PROJECTS OF COMMON INTEREST (PCI)Today, again I am smiling, as I did on the picture, back in November 2021, when we signed our first agreements with Elia Group and 50Hertz Transmission GmbH on the hybrid interconnectors TritonLink and Bornholm Energy Island. Because these days "the era of EU funding for fossil fuel infrastructure is over", as Kadri Simson, EU Commissioner for Energy, statedyesterday, when the European Commission adopted a list of 166 vital cross-border projects that will connect European countries and green economies of the future. Among the list of PCI's are TritonLink and Bornholm Energy Island - pioneering hybrid interconnectors in the North Sea and in the Baltic Sea.I strongly believe that to become independent of fossil fuels we must strengthen our ties. In a way, to become independent of fossil fuels, is to acknowledge and take serious our dependency of each other in Europe. Because of that I smile.Because of that I salute every single one of my many hard working colleagues in Energinet, Elia Group and 50Hertz Transmission GmbH working on these large and complex energy infrastructure projects that are so important in order to pave the way for all the green energy we need for a better world!#greentransition #energyislands #offshorewind

https://lnkd.in/gMUc27zJListen to Hanne Storm Edlefsen describe Denmark’s visionary wind energy initiative on National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s #gridtalk #podcast #windpower Edison Electric Institute EPRI US DOE IEEE European Commission #greenpower #climateaction Two Danish islands will serve as hubs of massive new offshore wind turbines to serve itself and neighboring countries and spur development of clean hydrogen green fuel for aircraft and factories. In this episode of Grid Talk, host Marty Rosenberg talks with Hanne Storm Edlefsen who is the vice president of Energy Islands, a project of the Energinet transmission system operator in Denmark. One complex will be on Bornholm Island in the Baltic and link up 3,000 megawatts of wind power, simplifying the collection of the power and its transmission to land. The second complex will be on a new island to be built in the North Sea.“Well out in the North Sea, we’re going to build an artificial island so that’s a whole other project. This is supposed to be finished in 2033 as the plans are now. It will be in the beginning three or four gigawatts of offshore wind which is to be decided by Parliament within the next couple of months, but the ambition is actually that later there will be added even more gigawatts so the artificial island in the North Sea will end on 10 gigawatts which is so much electricity,” said Edlefsen. Wind power provides half of Denmark’s electricity, and the goal is to increase it by 80% by 2024.

Last week, Extremadura hosted an International Forum inviting representatives from major companies across the Electric Vehicle value chain and attended by the President of the region and Spain’s Federal Secretary of State for Industry.Infinity Lithium Director, Ramón Jiménez Serrano was pleased to attend the event on behalf of subsidiary Extremadura New Energies as the Extremaduran Government continues with its focus on developing a localised industry built around energy transition and the Lithium-ion battery value chain. The event has followed the recent signing of an MoU with Chinese cathode company Hunan Yuneng for the construction of a factory in the region which compliments the progression of Envision's battery gigafactory in Extremadura. Many Chinese and Spanish companies were invited to the event to showcase what Extremadura can offer investors in the space, including vast renewable energy and the highest intensity of aid for large companies throughout Spain, according to the Regional Government. In developing this new industry the utilisation of its own natural resources and raw materials such as those at San José will be critical.https://lnkd.in/g4VUW9dyPhoto. Thank you for an inspiring and fact filled day at #Statkraftkonferansen i går, Christian Rynning-Tønnesen!Not only has investments in renewable power overtaken fossil investments (1,7 times more in 2022), but Bloomberg also expects global investments in electric mobility will overtake investments in power from next year on. 💰🚗🛻🚕This electrification revolution will also enter industry, and it will be disruptive to economic competitiveness. I enjoyed the presentation by Professor David G. Victor from the Deep Decarbonization initiative at UC San Diego on this topic, highlighting the need to plan for uncertainty, based on a deep understanding of the energy system in rapid development. This is one of the topics where Norway, with Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet (NTNU) and SINTEF are really world leading institutions. (Our researchers have also solved the inertia-problem that was presented as a big challenge from stage). I was incredibly proud of my colleague, chief scientist John Olav Tande who talked about his experience from 25 years of working with offshore wind. He pointed out that Norway already last year had exports to the offshore wind industry of 25 billion NOK, and he gave three cool examples of important innovations that makes him confident that offshore wind can, and should continue to grow:⚡️A new welding method that will cut the cost of welding large steel components by 80%,🤿Putting transformers on the sea bottom, thereby cutting costs and energy use🧐Using AI to control windmills to avoid the blades colliding with birds(!)The examples are from the work in FME Northwind, hosted by @SINTEF, where we collaborate with more than 50 industry players as well as @NTNU, @UIO, @NGI, @NINA and seven international research partners on cutting costs and increasing sustainability of offshore wind. However, the pace of innovation could and should be much faster, and at the current rate of investment, Norway has only educated 50 phd candidates in this field, which is way less than industry and academia needs. This, is why we argue that a doubling of public investment in Norwegian energy research, triggering significant co-investments from industry and matching funds from other European countries would put us on a better trajectory to solve the challenges that trouble us so today. 🌎🌍🌏🏆Claus Sonberg Birgitte Ringstad Vartdal

Busy times and sometimes we manage to tick an important milestone on the way ✅ Projects of Common Interest, or the European PCI status, is an signifiant recognition of the importance of realising a meshed grid in the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. The meshed grid will allow us to🧩 utilise offshore wind farms very far from land efficiently, and♻️ use cables for not only for exporting power to shore but also to share with other countries when there is less wind,🌿which is needed for the green transition and independence of fossil fuels
