As reported by Law360, U.S. District Judge Troy L. Nunley has consolidated three proposed class actions against Ford Motor Co. into a single coordinated proceeding. The suits are all based on similar allegations that Ford’s “EcoBoost” engines have a dangerous defect which can cause complete engine failure. Judge Nunley has given the plaintiffs 45 days to file a consolidated master complaint.
The lawsuits were filed earlier in December 2020, alleging that engines in 2013-2019 Ford Escapes, 2013-2019 Ford Fusions, 2015-2018 Ford Edges, 2017-2019 Lincoln MKCs and 2017-2019 Lincoln MKZs have defects that cause coolant to leak into the engine cylinders, causing significant damage and, in some cases, complete engine failure. The suit also claims there is documented proof that Ford Motor Co. knew about the defect since 2010, yet chose not to disclose this information to buyers.
Lieff Cabraser represents the plaintiffs in the action. “We are pleased that these cases have been consolidated,” said Lieff Cabraser partner Mark P. Chalos. “Consistent with Rule 1 of the Federal Rules, the consolidation of these cases will promote the efficient determination of the common issues in this litigation. We look forward to holding Ford accountable for the harm its defective engines have caused to the motoring public.”
