Selecting a departure port is no easy task since you have to consider how you’ll get to the port, parking costs, hours of operation, and which cruise lines depart from it.

Port of Miami (PortMiami)

Getting To Miami's Cruise Port:

There are a variety of ways to get to Port Miami. Public transportation options include Metrorail’s Orange Line from Miami International Airport, as well as the Green Line. Both rail lines will take you to Government Center, where you can take the Metromover to Freedom Tower Station. From there, you can take the free Coral Way Trolley to cross the PortMiami bridge. The trolley makes three stops on-port every 15 minutes at Terminals J and E, as well as PortMiami Administrative Offices.

Shuttle services are also available by request from Azamara, Carnival, Celebrity, Disney, Holland America, MSC, Norwegian, Oceania, Regent, Royal Caribbean, and Seabourn. Taxis, rideshare services, and rental cars are available as well.

PortMiami's Hours of Operation:

Port Miami is operational from 6:00 AM - 5:00 PM (06:00 - 17:00). It's highly recommended that you arrive early since the port can get very crowded, especially during peak cruise season.

Parking at the Port of Miami:

PortMiami offers a variety of parking options to accommodate different needs and preferences. Parking rates vary from $22 - $35 a day, depending on the cruise line and the duration of your cruise.

  • Oversized Vehicles: Vans, RVs, and vehicles over 20 feet in length can be parked in Surface Lot E.
  • EV Charging Stations: While there are no EV charging stations available in Port Miami, there are several charging stations close by, including Blink and ChargePoint.

Hotels Near Port of Miami (with Shuttles):

There are a variety of hotels close to PortMiami, many of which offer dedicated cruise port shuttles. InterContinental Miami is 0.7 miles from the port and offers a shuttle service for $8 per adult, and no charge for children under 6 years old. Comfort Suites Miami Airport North is a bit further at 8.5 miles from PortMiami, but offers a free shuttle service directly to the port. Comfort Inn & Suites Miami International Airport, is 7.8 miles from PortMiami and also offers a free shuttle service for all guests.

Getting To Port Canaveral Cruise Port:

Because Port Canaveral is a bit further from the Orlando International Airport (MCO), public transport is not available. However, there are a variety of independent shuttle services available which can be booked through their websites.

You can also book shuttle services through your cruise line if you are sailing with any of the following: Carnival, Disney, Norwegian, and Royal Caribbean. Taxis, ride-sharing, and rental cars are all available as well.

Port Canaveral Hours of Operation:

Port Canaveral operates 24 hours a day, providing flexibility for cruise schedules and allowing passengers to arrive and depart at times that best suit their travel plans.

Parking at Port Canaveral:

Parking at Port Canaveral is both convenient and affordable, with a daily rate of $17. This straightforward pricing makes it easy to budget for your trip without any surprises.

Getting to Port Everglades Cruise Port:

Public transportation is a great way to get to the cruise port. Fort Lauderdale's local bus service, the Broward County Transit (BCT), stops at the Northport section of Port Everglades on SE 17th Street You can find schedules and information here.

You can also opt for private modes of transportation for a quicker, more seamless trip. Cruise lines offering shuttle services to Port Everglades include Azamara, Celebrity, Disney, Holland America, Princess, Royal Caribbean, Silversea, and Viking Ocean. Taxis, ride-sharing, and rental cars are also available in the area.

Port Everglades Hours of Operation:

Port Everglades has three security checkpoints with the following availability:

  • Oversized Vehicles: While there is limited space available for oversized vehicles, be aware that no reservations or pre-payments are accepted. The rate for oversized vehicles is $25 a day.
  • EV Charging Stations: While there are no EV charging stations within the port, there are others close by such as Blink, ChargePoint, and Tesla Destination.

Getting To Port Tampa Bay:

There are a variety of cost-efficient public transportation methods available in Tampa. If you’re coming from the airport, take the SkyConnect to the Rental Car Facility Station, where you can switch to the Route 30 bus. Take the bus to Whiting Street at Tampa Street, and walk east one block to Downtown Tampa Station. From there, take the 800 line and get off at Publix Station, which is a brief 5-minute walk from Port Tampa Bay.

If you’re seeking a more time-efficient solution, certain cruise lines offer shuttles directly to the port. If you’re sailing with Carnival, Celebrity, Norwegian, or Royal Caribbean you can book a one-way or, for some lines, a round-trip shuttle. Taxis, ride-sharing, and rental cars are all available as well.

Port Tampa Bay is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Getting to JAXPORT:

Public transportation is available, but it’s generally not recommended. If you’re traveling from Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), you can take advantage of JAXPORT’s franchised taxi service, as well as the designated Shuttle & Special Needs Transportation service.

If you’re sailing with Norwegian, you can book a shuttle from the airport directly to your cruise port. Taxis, ride-sharing, and rental cars are all available as well.

JAXPORT operates 24 hours a day, providing flexibility and convenience for travelers.

Parking at JAXPORT:

If you choose to park at JAXPORT, you’ll pay a rate of $17 a day. This competitive pricing makes it easy to budget for your trip without any surprises.

  • Oversized Vehicles: If your vehicle takes up two parking spaces, you’ll pay a parking rate of $34 per day.
  • Reservations: Parking reservations are available at JAXPORT, although they are not required. However, if your cruise is during the busier seasons, we recommend making a reservation to ensure you have parking space in a convenient location.

JAXPORT is one of the less popular cruise ports, so there aren’t as many hotels in the area around it. The closest hotel is Holiday Inn Express & Suites - Blount Island, which is 0.9 miles from the port. Candlewood Suites Jacksonville East Merril Road is another good option, only 4.2 miles from the port. Courtyard Jacksonville I-295/ East Beltway is also within driving distance, just 5 miles from the port.
