LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) — For Nelly Korda, this was a most imperfect 10. The No. 1 player in women's golf had a shocker of a start in the U.S. Women's Open when she made a 10 on her third hole. She wound up with an 80, matching her worst score as a professional. Korda hit into the water three times on the par-3 12th hole. Korda hit her tee shot into a back bunker. Her sand shot went through the green into the water. She dropped on the other side of the stream, and her next two chips rolled back into the water. Korda says "today was just a bad day.”

Andrew Tate loses appeal to relax judicial restrictions as he awaits human trafficking, rape trial

BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) — Andrew Tate, the divisive social media influencer who is awaiting trial in Romania on charges of human trafficking, rape and forming a criminal gang to sexually exploit women, lost an appeal on Thursday to relax geographical restrictions that prevent him from traveling outside the Eastern European country. The Bucharest Court of Appeal ruled against Tate’s appeal, which challenged a court’searlier decisionto extend restrictions stipulatingTate, 37, may not leave the country. Tate had requested that he be able to leave Romania provided he stayed within Europe’s ID-check-free Schengen zone. There is no date set yet for the trial to begin.

Officer who arrested Scottie Scheffler criticizes attorney but holds 'no ill will' toward golfer

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The Louisville police officer who arrested Scottie Scheffler said he has “no ill will” toward the pro golfer for injuries he says he suffered. Detective Bryan Gillis says he hurt his knees and wrist falling to the ground. Gillis sent out a statement about the incident Wednesday night. Charges against Scheffler were dropped Wednesday. Gill wished Scheffler “all the best,” but took issue with comments by Scheffler’s attorney that the golfer was “falsely arrested.” Gillis wrote that Scheffler attorney Steve Romines’ claim of a false arrest was “unfortunate and disturbing” and a challenge to his honesty and integrity.

Statue unveiled at the site where Sojourner Truth gave her 1851 'Ain't I a Woman?' speech

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Hundreds gathered in an Ohio city to unveil a plaza and statue dedicated to abolitionist Sojourner Truth at the very spot where the women’s rights pioneer gave an iconic 1851 speech known as “Ain’t I a Woman?” Truth delivered the speech to a crowd gathered at the Universalist Old Stone Church in Akron for the Ohio Women’s Rights Convention. The statue was unveiled on Wednesday at the site where the church once stood. In the speech, Truth drew upon the hardships she faced while she was enslaved and asked the audience why her humanity and the humanity of other enslaved African Americans was not seen in the same light as white Americans.

Medline recalls 1.5 million adult bed rails following 2 reports of entrapment deaths

NEW YORK (AP) — Medical supply company Medline Industries is recalling some 1.5 million portable adult bed rails across the U.S. and Canada. The recalls two reports of entrapment deaths associated with the products. It impacts two models of Medline’s “Bed Assist Bars.” According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, users of these bed rails can become entrapped within the bed rail itself or between the product and the side of a mattress when it’s attached to a bed. That poses a serious entrapment hazard and risk of death by asphyxiation. The CPSC and Health Canada urges consumers in possession of these products to stop using them immediately — and contact Medline to request a refund.

Clerk over Alex Murdaugh trial spent thousands on bonuses, meals and gifts, ethics complaint says

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina officials have filed 76 counts of ethics violations against the court clerk who handled the Alex Murdaugh murder trial. The 25 pages of allegations accuse former Colleton County Clerk of Court Becky Hill of allowing a photo of Murdaugh in a holding cell to be taken to promote her book on the trial. They also say she gave herself nearly $10,000 in bonuses, used county money to buy dozens of lunches for her staff, prosecutors and a vendor, and bought Valentine's Day, Easter, Mother's Day and Father's Day gifts for employees and jurors. Hill could have to reimburse the expenses and face thousands of dollars or more in fines.

NEW YORK (AP) — For people putting a life back together after divorce, mundane household objects can be painful marital reminders. And in a practical sense, many items might have departed with the ex-spouse. Gift registries for divorce are a new way for loved ones to lend a hand, especially if they’re not quite sure how else to help. A rare divorce-specific registry, Fresh Starts, allows recipients to ask for items they need. Users say taking in gifts after divorce is a positive way to rebuild. It also allows friends and family to be present without taking sides, at least out loud. Fresh Starts has between 50,000 and 70,000 monthly users. Divorce registries are part of a trend toward breaking the stigma of broken marriages, along with divorce parties and formal divorce announcements.

Usher, Victoria Monét will receive prestigious awards from music industry group ASCAP

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Usher will add another prestigious award to his already loaded trophy case. The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers said on Thursday that Usher will receive its Voice of the Culture Award. He’ll be honored at ASCAP's Rhythm & Soul Music Songwriters and Publishers event on June 27. The R&B superstar is an eight-time Grammy winner who recently ended a two-year Las Vegas residency. Singer Victoria Monét will also be honored, receiving the the Vanguard Award for how she's helping to shape the future of music. Monét won three Grammys earlier this year, including best new artist and R&B album for “Jaguar II.”

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Jordan Chiles is making another run at the Olympics. The gymnast who helped the American women win silver at the Tokyo Games in 2021 is aiming to make the five-woman team that will be in Paris this summer. It's been an eventful three years for Chiles, who starred at UCLA for two years before returning to elite training last summer. Chiles says she is trying for another Olympic team because she feels as if she's never been 100% in her career. Chiles will try to take another forward step at the U.S. Championships in Fort Worth, the last major event before the Olympic Trials.

Mets to cut Jorge López after reliever throws glove into stands following ejection

NEW YORK (AP) — Jorge López will be cut by the struggling New York Mets after the reliever threw his glove into the stands following his ejection from a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Citi Field. Mets manager Carlos Mendoza called the outburst “not acceptable” and said it would be handled internally. López expressed no remorse for his display, saying he didn't regret it. Afterward, the Mets began the process of designating López for assignment. They will have seven days to trade or release him, or send him outright to the minors if no other team claims him on waivers.
